"Become a student of change. It is the only thing that will remain constant."

"CHANGE" is a word we must all come to terms with in this strange world we've presently found ourselves in. Somewhat overwhelming for so many, we have been inundated with workouts from trainers, gyms and gym goers over all kinds of social media platforms. It's crazy to think that only a couple weeks have gone by since our world was turned upside down. The days are going by so slowly because so much has happened and so much changes everyday. From government lockdown rules, to rising death tolls and Covid-19 cases, it feels like weeks have passed and yet it has not even been a month since we've been in lockdown.

On the fitness front, change happened quickly. Studios and gyms closed their doors, trainers were let go and people were losing their jobs in the thousands. The very gyms we are all members of adapted quickly to their circumstances and pumped out free live videos available to members and non-members alike. For the trainers who have been let go, we are still trying to get a grasp of our industry in its current state. With so much free material out there, how can we survive?

I am lucky that I can still afford food and my mortgage payment for now, but I already do miss the interaction with the members and clients I saw everyday. I don't know about you, but I've had a really hard time trying to follow or motivate myself to do any of the insta live workouts out there. I found myself only able to get motivated for workouts with Arleigh Corbin (@bar.coach) from Body and Barz, my coach and mentor, because of the interactive nature of his sessions.

Bartendaz is a community and although our current situation has forced us to adapt and change how we train together, we are still able to stay connected, banter with each other and feel the support of our community virtually.

As with my classes, I teach what I train, I teach how I train and I never give you, the student, a set I could not complete myself. Whatever I present to you in class is done so with the knowledge from years of my own experience, what is effective and what is not. In the same way, Arleigh and I could broadcast our sets and our training in free insta live videos but we know that it will dilute the core of what Bartendaz is, and that is COMMUNITY!

Someone once said that ...

"the art of life lies in a constant readjustment to our surroundings."

This is no more truer than in this very moment in time. We are all still figuring out what's next, but Bartendaz endeavours to remain authentic in its core values of community.  It is a training community that cannot be replaced by mediocre sets of masses jumping on the bodyweight bandwagon.  We don't know how the next months will play out but we invite you to come on the journey of embracing change within our community and seeing where it takes us all in the next few months. Through staying connected, we can only come out stronger on the other side.
